Run Against Cancer
On May 10, 2015 which it was on Mother’s Day, we, the organizers, have raised an event called ” run against cancer”. It was the 6 cancer awareness campaign. Have you heard about it?? It was organized by bong Monirath; we called her winner. There were two main cancers that we focused in the event. It was breast cancer and cervical cancer. Cervical and breast cancer are the two leading causes of cancer death in Cambodian women. Every two second, there is a women dies because of the cancers. The cancers mostly happened to women after they get married. They are very dangerous. Therefore, we try to raise public cancer awareness two times a year. And for this event, we made it at Koh Pich; the ticket was $5 but all Fund raised from ticket sales will be used for providing free breast and cervical screening for women.
Before the event came, The organizers had worked so hard on promoting the event and gone to many different schools to inform them about the event. And since we didn’t have the specific places to sell the tickets, we sometimes had to go to their places to sell the tickets. We undoubtably clear that 3 tickets are able to offer free screening to one woman. Consequently, it was worth going because our objective was to sell as many tickets as possible. Before a day of the event, we calculated the tickets sales, and we were all surprised that there were 1400 tickets were sold because we didn’t expect that much. On the event day, I arrived at Koh Pich at 5:30 morning, the team gave away 50 T-shirts to those who came early. The run started at 7:00. Before the run started, we danced to a hip-hop song as make-up exercise and then we started. It took only 1 hour to run 5km. And there are 6 winners. They received medal, certificate and some gifts from us. After that, we danced Madison dance to celebrate that our dancing is recorded in world record. Then, we danced penguin and chicken dance. It was so fun to me. We had photo session. We selfie with bong Many, with our team and with our friends. It was so happy. Oh, running can also help reduce the risk of getting those cancers. We highly recommend you to do more exercises. Any exercises are counted. Not only will you be healthy, but you will stay away from cancers as well.
To sum up, I am happy that I could involve in this event and help other women. For this campaign, there were 1300 runners and we have raised $8000 which we can help 500 women. It was a huge amount. Thank you indeed to our participators. Our next campaign will be held in October and we hope you can join and help women stay away from these dangerous cancers.
